Big-Stitch Quilting

Big Stitch Quilting is just what it says it is: quilting using big stitches. I take about 1/4″ bites out of the fabric with each stitch, sometimes a bit smaller, depending upon the design. Originally I used it because I wanted to finish a quilt quickly, but I decided I really liked the look and it was fun to do. The first few quilts I did with this technique I used #5 perle cotton thread in solid colors. Then I found Artfabrik hand-dyed perle cotton and have been hooked on it ever since. The choice of colors is fantastic and they enhance the quilt as they hold it together. Now I prefer #8 gauge. I baste my quilts with safety pins and then lap-quilt without using a frame of any kind.
