PORTRAITS
I am fascinated with faces, but thought quilt portraits would be impossible to do. I bought a book by a great portrait quilter, Deidre Scherer, and was even more convinced that I couldn’t do it. Then, one day I was looking over my son, Matthew’s, shoulder as he worked with Photoshop and an option caught my eye. He showed me how it worked and my portrait career was launched. This journey has taught me to appreciate age and all the tracks it leaves on a person’s face. Bah on plastic surgery, give me the real people with all their laugh lines, moles, jowls, and wrinkles.
